My work combines my years of study in sociology, library science, integrative health coaching, and astrology to examine societal norms, mental health, and personal freedom through my personal and community fiber art practices. My work explores themes of transformation, re-storying, and self-empowerment.
Fiber art allows my playful and imaginative side free reign filling me with the sense of freedom I have spent much of my life searching for.
In a spiritual sense, through learning to bring individual threads together into a varied and unique piece, I have learned how to take the disparate and often contradicting parts of myself and fashion them into a unified whole.
This process relates to my own journey toward self acceptance as well as the idea of “fitting in” and the ultimate choice to pursue authenticity over conformity. The process of making, specifically fiber art, is my medium of healing.
My combined studies in library science, integrative health coaching and astrology, have informed me on my winding path and my hope is that the knowledge I’ve gained affords me the ability to help others through their own meandering paths as well. Information can help us make choices that align with what we intuitively know already. Ultimately, we are our own best guides.
